The Ten Commandments: A Guide For Today's Orthodox Christian Families

God’s Truth lies in an understanding of the Ten Commandments as well as in the beauty and living examples of Christ’s Commands that carry with them the promise of eternal life. In our own families, we must surround our children with goodness.

At the age of 12, Fr. George Shalhoub, the son of Georgi and Emily Shalhoub and the youngest of three brothers and three sisters entered the Balamand Monastery in Tripoli, Lebanon. In 1972 Fr. George was married, ordained a priest and started St. Mary’s mission which later became the Antiochian Orthodox Basilica of St. Mary in Livonia, Michigan.

He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in sociology and psychology, a Master’s Degree in theological studies, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Pastoral Counseling.

Father George has shaped many lives in his 50 years as a priest as well as during his 29 years as a professor at Madonna University and as a 35 year faculty member of the Antiochian House of Studies.

As the recipient of many civic and humanitarian awards, Father’s greatest award has been his beautiful family with his wife Nouhad, four children, and eleven grandchildren.

Father George has also authored Journey of Faith, the Life of St. Mary’s Community, The Spirit of the Orthodox Church – Are We Worthy?, as well as many articles on the Orthodox family.
